A man with ties to Tama County is a wanted fugitive after escaping from a residential treatment facility in Des Moines last month.

On July 19, Aaron Francis Bordsen, 35, formerly of Marshalltown and Clear Lake, escaped from the Fort Des Moines Corrections Center in Des Moines.

Bordsen had been at the facility on probation since May 20 after being convicted of first-degree harassment, tampering with a witness and interference with the judicial process in incidents that occurred in Tama County district court in 2019.

In 2018, Bordsen was charged with first-degree harassment for repeatedly calling a former Toledo woman in violation of a no contact order and threatening her children.

Bordsen was sentenced to four years of incarceration after pleading guilty to the two counts of harassment. While at the sentencing hearing on Feb. 27, 2019, Bordsen displayed repeated inappropriate behavior in the courtroom, using profanity and laughing while reading the victim impact statement.

Bordsen also threatened the victim as the judge was giving the reasoning for the sentencing by pointing at them and yelling in a threatening manner, “you’re [expletive] finished”.

The judge then informed Bordsen he would be held in contempt of court, to which Bordsen responded by pointing and yelling “[expletive] you” in a threatening manner at the judge.

Tama County Sheriff’s deputies then intervened as Bordsen appeared to rise out of his chair following the outburst. Bordsen resisted and was eventually subdued and brought under control by three deputies and later removed from the courtroom.

Bordsen was later charged with harassment, tampering and judicial interference as a result of the 2019 courtroom incident and was serving probation at the Fort Des Moines facility for those charges until he escaped last month.

On July 17, 2021, Bordsen engaged in fighting or violent behavior at the Des Moines facility and two days later at approximately 10:28 p.m., escaped through a conference room fire exit.

Shortly after his escape the corrections center received an alarm that the GPS ankle monitor Bordsen was wearing had been cut or removed.

Bordsen remains a fugitive as his whereabouts are unknown to law enforcement and the Iowa Department of Correctional Service. His Iowa Risk assessment scores high for violence and moderate/high for victimization.

Bordsen is 5’11”, 250 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information which might aid and assist in the apprehension of Aaron Francis Bordsen should contact the Office of the Tama County Sheriff at 641-484-3760.
