Kevin Ferneau and his sons took on the task of moving the little cabin at the King Tower so that it is now located on King Tower property. There had been 18 cabins located behind the Tower, but all others have been moved or demolished. This remaining cabin was not one that would move easily. The west part of the cabin was used for visitor registration, but the east side was the shower room. all the plumbing and concrete made moving it too difficult. However, Mr. Ferneau took on the job. It entailed a lot more than he had planned, as it took almost two days to prepare the structure so that it could withstand a move.

Kevin Nelson will repair the exterior of the cabin later this summer. Volunteers will be needed to scrape and paint the cabin.

The cabin, the King Tower road sign, the King Tower restaurant are all needed in order to qualify as a historic district. Having the designation of historic district makes the area of equal importance with other historic districts like the Czech Village and the east side of Des Moines.

When completed, this will be a new tourist attraction and with signage it will encourage tourists to visit the new and unique shops in downtown Tama.
