South Tama will be looking for a new head girls basketball coach for the 2021-22 season.

Todd Dale submitted a resignation letter to the board which was approved at Monday’s school board meeting.

In the letter to the board Dale stated he had quit coach basketball in 2011 because he lost the love of the sport and coaching. He returned in 2016 because South Tama was in need of a girls coach.

Dale went on to say he knows that South Tama has a good option for a coach, naming Dina Keahna. Keahna has served as a freshman boys coach and most recently the assistant girls coach.

“I will miss working with the girls, but at this time in my life I will not miss basketball. I have had a decent run, but truly believe that it is time to turn it over to someone who has a heart for the game of Basketball,” Dale said.

During Dale’s time as the head girl’s coach he finished with a record of 42-48.

Under Dale’s time as coach the Trojans had one run at State, qualifying for the tournament in 2018.

“With coach Dale stepping down we have an opportunity to find a new head coach for the South Tama Girls basketball program. We are going to miss coach Dale and everything he has done for the program but we are also excited to add someone new to get this program going in a new direction. The person we hire needs to be dedicated to what it takes to build a strong program that will compete in the WaMaC conference and promote the program in a positive light,” STC Activities Director Anthony Jahr said.

Public hearing

The board approved permission to publish a budget amendment and set the public hearing for May 17. The budget needs amended due to COVID-19 related purchases.

The district has been working on the sale of the grounds which housed the Primary school building. According to Superintendent Jared Smith the sale is moving forward but more time is needed.

“It still seems like things are a go but there were some complications with the way the land was split up,” Jared Smith said.

One issue the district ran into was the alley associated with the property had never been vacated. That issue has since been handled by Tama City Council.

The board approved amending the purchase agreement until the end of July.

In other board business the board approved:

the black top services bid for the middle school playground area.

the Kluesner Crack Leveling Bid for the Elementary south parking lot.

the purchase of a replacement chair lift for the middle school gym.

the black top services bid for the administration office parking lot.
