One person killed, another injured in Tama County crash

Deadly Accident

An early morning car crash resulted in one fatality and one person being sent to the hospital Monday.

The crash occurred at U.S. Highway 30 and Tama County Road E66, (the Chelsea turn-off) at 6:50 a.m.

Hazel Ann Griffiths, 73, of Brooklyn was driving westbound on E66 and failed to yield a stop sign located at E66 and Highway 30.

Griffiths entered eastbound traffic and collided with a vehicle being driven by Molly Elizabeth Watt, 21, of Melbourne.

Griffiths was announced dead on scene.

Watt was transported to St. Lukes Hospital by the Belle Plaine Ambulance Department. Her condition is currently unknown.

The Tama County Sheriff’s Office, Tama Police Department, Chelsea Fire Department, Belle Plaine Ambulance, and Belle Plaine Fire Department assisted in the emergency response.
