Sexual assault allegations lead to additional charges in Tama

Tama Police investigated a sexual assault accusation Aug. 20. This led to the arrest of Andrew Tyler Hanus of Tama at the 800 block of Wilson Street in Tama.

This also resulted in the charges of:

•Assault with intent to commit sexual abuse (Class D felony)

•Harassment (1st Aggravated misdemeanor)

•Possession of the controlled substance methamphetamine (Serious misdemeanor)

•Seven counts of possession of drug paraphernalia (Simply misdemeanors)

Hanus did bond on these charges and was released.

On Sept. 14 Tama Police were investigating a domestic abuse report and a suspect fled on foot to the 800 block of Wilson Street.

Officers canvased the area. It was reported the suspect may be at the Hanus residence.

Upon further investigation drug paraphernalia was found in plain view. A warrant was executed and Hanus was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Polk County for probation violation.

During the search a large amount of methamphetamine was recovered and additional charges were filed and a warrant was requested for:

•Controlled substance violation (Class B felony)

•Controlled substance violation (Class B felony)

•Failure to affix drug stamp (Class D felony)

•Failure to affix drug stamp (Class D felony)

On Sept. 27 Tama Police went to the Hanus residence in the 800 Block of Wilson Street to locate Hanus on an outstanding warrant.

Hanus was arrested on the warrant from the above charges out of Tama.

During this time additional drug paraphernalia was found and an additional search warrant was executed resulting in additional charges for:

•Possession with intent to deliver (Class D Felony)

•Gathering where controlled substance are unlawfully used (Class D felony)

The investigation continues with the possibility of additional charges and additional suspects.

Tama Police were assisted by Toledo Police, Tama County Sherri’s Office and Meskwaki Police during this investigation.

Hanus is currently being held at the Tama County Jail on $30,000 bond.
