As of Friday at 5 p.m. Alliant Energy has a majority of the power in the Tama community restored.

In Toledo roughly one-third of the community has service back.

Alliant anticipates that by the end of Tuesday a majority of Tama and Toledo will be restored.

The news comes after the Iowa Utilities Board required electric utilities and transmission companies to file power restoration timelines.

The IUB today issued an order requiring all investor-owned electric utilities, municipal and cooperative associations in Iowa, and electric transmission company ITC Midwest LLC to file specific information with the IUB regarding a timeline for the total restoration of electric power as a result of the destructive derecho that struck Iowa on August 10, 2020.

The order, issued in docket SPU-2020-0010, requires information to be filed at 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily, including weekends until all power to Iowa residents is restored and will ensure up-to-date details are available to all state agencies, local governmental entities, and Iowans.

The affected utilities are required to file for each county and municipality, a timeline for power restoration, the total number of customers without power by county and community, and the total number of customers whose power was restored in the previous 24 hours. The reporting must also include the number of crews dispatched and their location, how local governments are informed of outages, and any delay in restoration caused by local conditions or loss of electric power from a transmission company.

ITC Midwest is required to file information about the location of facilities that have been damaged, a timeline for restoration of the damaged facilities, information identifying what electric utilities are served by the damaged facilities, whether there are alternative methods of restoring power on a temporary basis, and an explanation of what information the company is sharing with the electric utilities and local government agencies.

The order also requires all investor-owned utilities that have customers remaining without power to publish anticipated repowering information on their websites and social media.

The IUB will post and update the information on its website, iub.iowa.gov, and all information filed in docket SPU-2020-0010 will be available to review in the IUB’s electronic filing system.
