Tama County Supervisors accept law enforcement contracts

Annual law enforcement contracts between the Tama County Sheriff’s Office and eight towns were accepted Monday by the Board of Supervisors for the fiscal year beginning July . All are renewals for Chelsea, Montour, Elberon, Gladbrook, Traer, Dysart, Clutier, and Lincoln.

The contracts for three twos, Gladbrook and Dysart reflect three percent increase in cost over the current year, attributed to inflation.

The contract costs per city are- Chelsea, Elberon, Clutier $2,200 each annually and Lincoln $1,900 annually for patrol service, 24-hour call service and general services; Montour- $3,200 for up to 30 hours monthly; Gladbrook- $50.96 per hour for 115 hours service per month ta a monthly total of $5,860; Traer- $50.96 per hours for 200 hours service monthly at a total cost of $10,192 monthly and, if more than 200 hours, up to 230 maximum hours per month also at a cost of $50.96 hourly; Dysart- $50.96 hourly to supplement the Dysart Police Department coverage; Elberon- $2,200 annually for 24-hour call service and general service; Garwin- up to 40 hours monthly at a cost of $1,030 monthly.

Sheriff Dennis Kucera told The News-Herald Dysart Police provide almost all of the city’s coverage and the sheriff’s office is not called upon often under the contract.

Bond Refund Approved

A measure which will save the county $202,000 in bond interest payments over the term was approved by the supervisors on a 3-0 vote Monday. Bonds refunded were for a 2013 issue to pay for road improvements with a remaining amount due totaling $5,530,000.

The amount is to be combined with a new issue which includes payment for a new emergency radio system at a cost not to exceed $6.7 million.

A transfer totaling $336,933 from the Vienna Wind Turbine Project fund to the debt service fund for the total annual payment of $503,355 was also approved on a 3-0 vote.

In other business the supervisors:

approved the quarter report of Recorder Deborah Kupka.

approved changes in over-the-counter medication prescriptions and other procedural changes for county employee health insurance coverage.
