In an effort to protect the health of our customers and employees and an attempt to maintain continuity of operations and limit potential exposure due to the Corona Virus/COVID-19. The Tama County Administration Buildings and all county facilities will still be conducting business although our exterior doors may be locked. People are encouraged to contact the respective county offices by telephone to conduct business until further notice. Toledo & Tama area:

Here is a list of local Tama-Toledo establishments (restaurants, grocery stores, bars, gyms) and city/county government that have announced changes to their operations. As more information is made available, we will continue to update this online story. Please check tamatoledonews.com for local updates:

Cities of Toledo and Tama — Effective immediately all City of Toledo facilities, including City Hall, Reinig Center, Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works, Watera nd Wastewater plant will be closed to the public until further notice.

Tama County Courthouse / Administration Bldg. — Sheriff Dennis Kucera said there is concern about incoming inmates to the jail and some precautions are being taken. The Tama County Sheriffs Office front office will be closed until further notice. No jail visitations until further notice.

Tama County Courts — No criminal jury trial until April 20; all civil jury trials and small claims trials scheduled to begin before May 4 are continued.

Toledo Public Library – Curbside Service available. Call library to request materials to be pulled and checked out, allow adequate time for items to be gathered, notify library by phone when you arrive in parking lot, a staff member will put your materials on a table in the front entrance for you to retrieve, all items are to be returned in the drop-box in the alley on the wet side of the building.

Tama Public Library — closed until further notice.

Grocery Stores

Fareway — Beginning Wednesday, March 18, all Fareway stores and meat markets will be open Monday-Saturday from 8 a.m. 7 p.m. The early closure will provide for additional cleaning and sanitation measures in our stores, as well as time for restocking inventory. As part of these new hours, the first hour of business from 8 9 a.m. will be reserved for those customers who are 65 and over, expecting mothers, those living with a serious chronic medical condition, and anyone with an underlying medical condition that increases the susceptibility to serious illness from COVID-19. We appreciate the advance cooperation from our customers in respecting the hour reserved for those that are at higher risk.

Dollar Fresh/HyVee Pharmacy — Hy-Vee, Inc. announces that due to evolving concerns regarding coronavirus (COVID-19), it is adapting the ways in which it serves customers to ensure they receive the products they need while keeping customers, employees and communities healthy and safe.

STORE HOURS: Starting Wednesday, March 18, Hy-Vee stores will close at 8 p.m. Until further notice, Hy-Vee’s new store hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week. These shortened hours will allow employees additional time to clean and sanitize all areas of the store, as well as restock the items in highest demand. Operating with shorter hours also will allow employees additional time to care for their families and loved ones.

Dollar General — Beginning tomorrow, Dollar General is strongly encouraging that the first hour of operations each day be dedicated solely for the shopping needs of senior customers, who are one of the groups most vulnerable to the COVID-19 coronavirus. In keeping with the Company’s mission of Serving Others, Dollar General wants to provide these at-risk customers with the ability to purchase the items they need and want at the beginning of each day to avoid busier and more crowded shopping periods.

Other customers are encouraged to plan their shopping trips around this window of time to allow the most susceptible customers in our communities the ability to shop during the first hour that stores are open.

Additionally, all stores plan to close one hour earlier than current close times to allow employees to clean and re-stock store shelves, as well as for their health and wellbeing. Stores will continue to maintain current opening hours. 8 a.m.- 10 p.m. changed to closing at 9 p.m. at 301 2nd st. in Toledo.

Medicap — Store closed but drive thru is available and open normal hours. Will be offering extended delivery hours and extended fills on prescriptions.

Area Schools

South Tama Schools — Closed for four weeks starting on Monday, March 16

Meskwaki Settlement Schools — Starting March 19, MSS, including offices, will be closed until at least April 13.

Iowa Valley — all spring competitions, including those for Ellsworth Community College and Marshalltown Community College, for the remainder of the academic year cancelled effective immediately.

ISU Extension and Outreach — Most Iowa State University Extension and Outreach events throughout the state March 16 through April 4 have been cancelled. When possible, some activities may be conducted virtually using video or teleconferencing. Meskwaki Bingo, Casino & Hotel — Closed through April 14, more info online

Meskwaki Tribal Operations — Closed through March 27th. Will be reevaluated on March 25th to determine future measures. The Meskwaki Health Clinic, Behavioral Health Services (MADAC), CHR Program, Pharmacy, and the Meskwaki Travel Plaza will remain open during this time.

Kids Corner — Closing an hour earlier than normal, at 5 p.m., so teachers can deep clean and sanitize. Parents are not allowed past the lobby.

Sunny Hill — Restricting all nonessential visitors, except for special circumstances.

Tama Senior Center — Tama Senior Center at Meskwaki Celebration Assembly of God Church, 900 E. 5th, Tama.

Northeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging (NEI3A) has made the decision to close all of its senior centers and meals sites starting Tuesday, March 17, until further notice. Individuals who attend the sites will be contacted today and given the option to receive a home-delivered meal. All office locations will also be closed to the public but will remain open to offer services Information about meals, transportation tickets, or other services, we ask that you call 1-800-779-8707 instead of coming to any of our office locations.

Tama County Landfill – will be conducting all transactions through window. No customers will be allowed to enter the scale house.
