South Tama schools closed for four weeks

South Tama schools will be clsoed for four weeks effective immediately.

The following statement was issued at 3:40 p.m. Monday, March 16:

Upon discovery of the existence of substantial community spread of COVID-19 in Iowa, Governor Reynolds recommended on March 15th that Iowa schools close for four weeks.

The South Tama County School District is following the Governor’s recommendation and is closing school effective immediately.

We understand that this will create an inconvenience, and in cases, a hardship for many in our school district and we do not take that lightly. We are doing everything we can to respond proactively and effectively to the pandemic while connecting our families with the necessary services. The Public Health Department recommends families work together during this difficult time to assist with childcare during working hours.

Governor Reynolds will be hosting another press conference today (March 16th) at 4:30pm. Our district leadership team will be meeting tomorrow (March 17th) to discuss the information shared during the Governor’s public announcement. Following our meeting we will communicate with families more details regarding how we will move forward together in the coming weeks.
