Three-part Downsizing series begins Feb. 17

Iowa Valley Continuing Education will host a three-part “Downsizing: Planning Your Next Move” series on Feb. 17, Feb. 24 and Mar. 2. The classes will meet on Mondays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the IVCE Conference Center (room 610) at 3702 S. Center St. in Marshalltown.

“Anyone who’s considering moving to a smaller home or is helping a parent or grandparent do the same, or is just ready to declutter their current home, will receive important guidance,” says Julie Thomas, program facilitator. “Our leaders will be Debra Hippler and Alushia Fitzgerald, the mother-daughter team that owns Staging 2 Sell It in downtown Marshalltown. They have experience with working with realtors and their own clients to help people choose the correct ‘next home’ and sell their current home. Debra and Alushia are involved with all aspects of moving, from decluttering to helping with resources such as movers, auction houses and interior design. They can also discuss the pros and cons of all kinds of housing options, including houses, condos, independent living, assisted living, or others.”

The introduction to downsizing on Feb. 17 will cover types of homes and ways to declutter and/or downsize one’s possessions. The Feb. 24 class will cover preparing a home for sale, planning for a move, and all aspects of moving. The Mar. 2 class will cover setting up a new home or current home and utilizing a home’s spaces to best advantage.

The Creative Retirement program sponsored by Iowa Valley offered this class last fall during the daytime to a full house with great reviews; there were several requests for this class to be repeated in the evening. This program is open to the public.

Registrations can be completed online at iavalley.augusoft.net or by calling 641-752-4645; please refer to class ID #4287. Cost of the three-part series is $25 per person, or $40 per couple.
