Montour Community Club discusses events, community center

The Montour Community Club met Jan. 20, 2020, with Vice President Luther Heller presiding over the meeting until Pres. Dustin Wright could get there. We had 16 members present.

Secretary and Treasurer report was read and approved.

Barb Steveson gave us an update on the Pepper Tournament to be held January 24. Sign up will be at 5:30 p.m. and playing will start at 6 p.m.

We will continue taking orders for the Montour T-shirts. There will be a sign up sheet at the card party for anyone interested in placing an order.A picture of the shirt is at the post office.

Luther Heller is making final arrangements for a CPR class to be held Feb. 24 at 6 p.m. Ben Little will take care of the advertisement of this event. The class is open to the community and anyone that would like to learn this procedure in case any emergency situation should arise.

We discussed timing of painting the interior of the center that we would like to have completed by April 20 when folks will be renting it for their Easter dinners with family.

Luther Heller be the second person that will be able to write checks in Don Campbell’s absent if the need would ever be needed.

Ben Little explained to the members of the community club why it would be necessary for us to have our own liability insurance. Don Campbell has been in contact with the insurance agent about this matter but has not heard back from him at the time of the club meeting.

It was brought to our attention of the need to replace the board under the cabinets in the kitchen. A couple of the club members will take care of the maintenance on this.

March activities will include a “garage sale” with all proceeds to be given to the community club. More details on this will follow at the February club meeting.

We will dedicate the contruction of the community building at the 150 year anniversary of our Montour community in 2023.

It was suggested having three of our club members get a legal document drawn up as to how the community building came about with the club having full control of the events being held at the center as well as taking care of any maintenance to the building with all revenue to be given to the community club.

We thanked Don Campbell for his time spent for lawn mowing and tree trimming for many years. A job well done

Next meeting will be held at the Community Center be Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. Please note that all of the community is always welcome.
