(Special) Montour is a small town that once you have lived there, it stays a part of you.

In 1973, a question was asked…”Would you be interested in a community minded club to help better the town?” The answer was “yes.”

They began a campaign to interest the people of the area to clean-up improve and grow. The club was named EGAD [Everybody Give A Damn] It wasn’t until around the early 80’s that there began an interest in a community center, and the people pitched in, the land was donated by a local resident, and from there, with the donated ‘materials, including the furnace and the donated local area labor, it became the Montour Area Community Center. One end of the center is used for council room, and city office..and the center is rented for reunions, funerals, and various activities. The community club has not been active for several years, and some awesome, area residents, decided it was time for a revival.

Monthly meetings are set up for the 3rd Monday of the month, officers voted in and the first activity was a potluck family affair, and a huge success.

A [put up] Christmas lights day, with coffee and goodies, also a good turn out of helpers, also a center clean up day, and a sparkling clean center. We are wanting to have adult, children, and family activities to keep an interest in the club. All of these activities are open to all the Montour area residents and anyone that has or has had, a connection with Montour.

Our next scheduled activity, will be a Pepper Tournament on Friday, Jan. 24, sign up at 5:30 p.m. with, a $2 entry fee. We will accept snacks to be served during play, coffee and lemonade will be served…The PUBLIC IS WELCOME!!

We have all known the willingness of the local community to jump in and help with all the activities we have been involved in over the years… And would like to give a salute to the many, many area residents that have gone to the big community club in the sky that have played a big part in all of this … Montour is like the energizer rabbit … it keeps going …. and going….
