Montour Community Club plans winter activities

The Montour Community Club met Dec. 16, 2019, at 6 p.m.with President Dustin Wright presiding and 18 members present.

The Treasurer and Secretary reports were read and approved.

Geri Hoskey read about when the Montour Community Club (Aka EGAD) was formed by concerned citizens coming together on March 6, 1973. The first EGAD meeting was held on March 11, 1973. It was suggested that a celebration be held to commemorate 47 years of community support.

It was decided to take orders for our new Montour Logo T- shirts. The shirts will sell for $15. There will be information and pictures of these shirts at the Post Office as well as the Montour clerk’s office. Ashlea Tasler will also put this information on Montour Facebook. We will take orders up to Janurary 20 as to when the orders will be placed.

Todd Hinegardner will continue to do the snow removal for the center. Don Campbell will contact Todd as to any events being held to let him know that the removal of snow would have to be done earlier than his normal schedule. Luther Heller will head up a steering committee to make sure that the sidewalks were cleared of snow and ice. He will start on January 2, 2020.

Don Campbell will meet with the city clerk to have any questions answered on liability insurance for anyone doing the lawn mowing.

Alliant Energy has contacted us that if we want electricity to our Christmas lights that we would have to pay for all wiring and receptacles. It would be more expensive than what we felt we could do at this time. We will try to locate other decorations that don’t require lighting.

More discussion was made about the council paying the community center rent vs. a donation. If they would decide to give $300, it would have to be designated for a particular project. At this time, the center will not get any funds for 2019-20.

After finding out that sending out mailings for all our activities and meetings would cost at least $30 for each event, it was decided to use social media and only use mailing for special events.

Geri Hoskey and Mar Sears made a motion to elect a vice president. Luther Heller volunteered with Roger Steveson making a motion to accept him as vice president. Motion carried

It was voted to have a second signature on all checks being paid out on our community club account. A motion by Sue Eberhart and Vicki Garske was made for the bills be presented at the community meetings and made out at that time. Motion passed with one opposing vote. Sue Eberhart and Ashlea Tasler made a motion that the new acting vice president Luther Heller be the designated person to co-sign the checks with Don Campbell.
