Iowa Valley bonds garnered support across the district

Iowa Valley vote totals for Tama County precincts

With majority support from the nine vote reporting areas, the Nov. 5 $32 million Iowa Valley Community?College?District bond issue passed with 62.4% approval.

The issue failed to gain 60% approval in March falling short 58.39 – Yes to 41.61% opposed.

Although it again fell short of the 60% required for bond issue approval in Tama, Poweshiek and Jasper counties, this time the broad support in Marshall and Hardin counties which are home to two of the community college sites proved to be the deciding factor.

This time only the few votes cast in Clutier and Elberon in Tama County reflected a negative vote and voting at Chelsea split 25-25.

South Tama voters favored the issue 450-354. When the issue was before voters in March the South Tama vote was 40 – Yes 69 – No.

This time, with the combined city and school elections on Nov. 5, it was evident at all South Tama polling places there was a much higher turnout.

Tama and Montour each had city council races.

The bond issue is aimed primarily at infrastructure improvements and repairs on the campuses of Marshalltown Community?College, Ellsworth Community?College, Iowa Falls and to a lesser extent, Grinnell Community College.
