If there’s someone, young or old, who hasn’t taken a Haunted Hayrack Ride Around Cherry Lake, this Saturday night, Oct. 26, is the time.

Join with literally hundreds of area kids and adults alike as they brave the frighteningly fun ride with rides beginning at 7 p.m. from the Tama Civic Center, downtown at 305 Siegel.

There’s no charge for the event sponsored by the City of Tama.

If you know of some characters or might like to join in on with the trail creatures yourself, you are free to “swoop in” that night, Tama City Clerk Alyssa Hoskey says.

Trick or Treat Trail, Chili Supper

As a warm up for Halloween night, the Trick or Treat Trail will again take place in the Tama Fire Station for kids up to age 12. It runs from 5-6:30 p.m. on Saturday night with sponsorship by the Tama-Toledo Area Chamber of Commerce.

You can also dine on a chili supper sponsored by the Living Faith United Methodist Church served in the Civic Center Auditorium starting at 5 p.m.

7th Annual Ride

In 2013 Sue Carnahan and daughter, Emily, who were walking on the South Tama Recreation Trail around Cherry Lake, came up with the idea of some added Halloween fun.

Suggested then during a city council meeting by then- member Mike Carnahan, the Haunted Hayrack Ride was born.

Some devious creatures from parts unknown have descended on the lake shore each year since.
