Iowa Valley Board to consider bonds today
At what is listed as a board retreat, the Iowa Valley Community College District Board of Directors is scheduled to meet at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, to discuss a proposed bond referendum.
The final filing date for a school bond issue referendum for the Nov. 5 school election is Sept. 19.
On April 2, a $32 million Iowa Valley bond issue received a favorable majority vote but came up just short of the required 60 percent for passage.
New Iowa Valley Chancellor Mary Fisher told The Marshalltown Times-Republican the bond issue is her “number one priority” in a report published July 19.
The April bond issue was to provide financing for infrastructure and educational improvements at the campuses in Marshalltown, Grinnell and Iowa Falls.
The overall vote April 2 over the areas served by Iowa Valley in five counties was 2,227 YES 1,587 NO. In the South Tama School District the vote totals were 40-YES 69-NO.
The April issue was delayed from a planned December, 2018, vote, in the aftermath of the tornado which struck Marshalltown in July.
