Toledo Public Library News

The Toledo Public Library is pleased to announce that the library has recently received State of Iowa Accreditation at a Tier 3 Level; the highest level possible through the State Library of Iowa. Of Iowa’s 543 public libraries, 377 are accredited, including Toledo.

The library is recognized for efforts in all areas of library operations through completing standards. The standards exist to encourage the ongoing development of high quality public library service.

Out of 81 standards, the Toledo Library has met 78 of those. Standards include Library Governance, Management, Personnel, Collections, Virtual and Physical spaces, Programming, Community Relations and Library Facility. Iowa libraries are accredited for a three-year period of time.

August events happening at the library are: Builder’s Lab (blocks, bricks and magnetics), bingo, Art Lab, summer movie, and jewelry making. Jump onto the website www.toledo.lib.ia.us for dates and times.

The library will participate in Stuff the Bus again this year. Bring in school supplies to donate to local schools July 29 through Aug. 22.

In partnership with Usborne Books, the library will host a Reach for the Stars reading incentive program beginning Sept. 3 and running through Sept. 30. Stop into the library to find out more about this program.

The library will host the annual Book Sale during September and October. Stop in to fill up a few bags to get you through those cold and snowy winter days. Each bag is $2 and all proceeds go back to the library to purchase new materials. If you have clean, gently used books or DVDs you would like to donate, call the library and talk to Sheri or Jenny.
