Week Two of Summer Reading at the Tama Library

Tuesday: Aurora Krigel, Fax Gilbert and Logan Richards -Photos provided

Week 2 of “A Universe of Stories”

Tuesday June 11th was our second program for kids who will be in 1st grade and up. Our guest presenter was Fax Gilbert. The presentation was titled Mime, Masks, and Magic. It was a very funny and amazing show with lots of participation by the audience. Fax and two assistants performed surgery for us, who would have known that Jesse had all those creatures (snakes, spiders, mice frogs, etc.) in his tummy. We learned about body language and that “Queen Jean” was able to do magic too.

For our Thursday June 13th program for Preschool and Kindergarten children we read: Moon’s First Friends: One Giant Leap for Friendship by Susanna Hill; Pluto Visits Earth by Steve Metzger; and There Was an Old Astronaut Who Swallowed the Moon by Lucille Colandro.

For both programs the kids played Alien Bowling, made Alien sack puppets and had Milky Ways bars and Kool aide for snacks. We drew names for those present and gave away prizes. The Thursday group all received new donated animals that needed homes. They brought lots of smiles.

The library received two more donations for Summer Reading, one from the F.O.E. Auxiliary and a very generous donation from El Gallito. They join our list of Super Sponsors which includes: Williams Manufacturing; Independent Insurance; Pinnacle Bank; OK Tire; Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home; Tama County Supervisors; State Bank of Toledo; Fraternal Order of Eagles; Lincoln Savings Bank; Blank Park Zoo; Casey’s General Store; Dollar General Grant; Anne Michael and Robert Ingles Trust.

The children continue to read and keep their log sheets, and several have set goals for this summer in order to receive a special prize when they reach that goal. Last day to turn in log sheets will be July 31st.
