ISU Extension and Outreach, Tama County 4-H, will be hosting several events this summer that all youth are invited to participate in.

“Art in the Park” day camp is for those youth having completed Kindergarten-Third grades.

This camp will be held on the following dates and locations: June 24 Traer Park, June 28 Tama Park and July 1 Garwin Park. Kids will create all kinds of art projects, plus hear stories and play games. The fun will begin at 9:00 a.m. and go until 3:00 p.m. Cost for each camp is $10 to cover supplies and snacks. Campers need to bring a sack lunch. Space is limited. Registration deadline is June 18.

For those who have completed grades 5-8, we have a Babysitting Clinic on Friday, June 7th at the Toledo Public Library from noon to 6:00 p.m. This clinic will cover the basics of babysitting including appropriate activities for all ages, feeding, bottles, diapers, emergency preparedness and more. You’ll go home with a bag of activities to take with you to babysit. Cost is $10 and registration is due June 3.

Let’s make jam on June 20th from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Otter Creek Nature Center.

Be introduced to waterbath canning, receive food preservation handouts and learn how to make jam.

You’ll go home with 2 jars of strawberry jam! This is for those who have completed grades 4-12 (4-6th graders need an adult to attend with them if possible). Cost is $10. Registration deadline is June 17th.

Want to learn how to re-purpose an old trophy and make it into a lamp? We’ll do that on June 12th at the Tama County Extension Office from 9 a.m. to noon. For those completing grades 4-12, you’ll receive all the supplies needed to do this. We’ll learn how to sand, paint and add the electrical. Cost is $20 and registration deadline is June 7th.
