Meskwaki Settlement School is celebrating the success of six students at IHSSA State Individual Speech Competition on March 9 at North Scott.

Senior Tylen Garcia earned a Division I rating with her literary program, “Social Media Modifies Communication.”

Senior Danielle Seymour who competed in two areas, earned a Division I rating with her prose selection, “Junie B. Jones: Punishment.”

Senior Tracie Kapayou who also took two events, used the prose selection “Frybread Queen,” to bring a Division I rating back from competition.

Senior Josephine Youngbear was the fourth senior who earned a Division I rating with her original oratory, “White Privilege.”

Zandra Youngbear earned a Division I rating with her poetry selection, “Instructions for a Bad Day.” The final Warrior to earn a Division I rating was Romeo Buffalo with “Rabbit Dance,” a traditional story that was told to him by his grandfather.

Those students who performed well, but were issued Division II ratings, were Marley Whitefish (literary program and reviewing), Marybelle Armajo (original oratory), Emmett Roberts (literary program), Danielle Seymour (storytelling), and Tracie Kapayou (expository address.)

Coaches Brian Murphy and Julie Bousum expressed their congratulations for the work of students and their appreciation of the support from every participant’s family.
