A set of standards detailing 16 goals new South Tama Schools Superintendent Jared Smith and the school board will share and focus on were approved by the board on Monday night, Oct. 22. Smith took over the leadership role of the district on July 1 succeeding Jeff Berger in the post.
The standards are leadership which define methods of “promoting the success of students” through learning with responsibility of ethics, society, community and culture among the principles.
A timeline for each area ranging from fall of this year to “ongoing” accompanies the list.
One of the highlights include Smith to prepare a “State of the District” presentation for both fall of this year and spring, 2019. It is to “summarize student achievement data and other relevant information that will guide school improvement efforts.”
A second goal is development of a long-range facilities plan due in the spring of 2019 and develop what is termed a “district Financial Report card” by December, 2019.
Also, a College Decision Day for the spring, 2019, ongoing development of “understanding, acceptance and appreciation of diversity within staff, students and families and for the superintendent to be “highly visible” in the communit are listed.
