The Wieting Theatre Guild and the Old Creamery Theatre Company are excited to give 60 area children age seven and older the opportunity to learn theatre skills and perform for their families, friends and neighbors. These kids will have the opportunity to learn skills such as being comfortable in front of a crowd, vocal projection, stage directions, and technical aspects of theatre and how to cooperate and work as a team to put on a musical in one week while having fun!

After roles are assigned, the students will spend the rest of the week memorizing their songs, lines and dance steps. The musicals performed every year are originals written by Jackie McCall the Education Director of the Old Creamery Theatre Company with help from her husband, Sean McCall, the Artistic Director and Travis Smith, the Composer. The play this year is entitled, “The Legend of Blackbeard’s Gold”. It is a rollicking musical that reminds us to stand up for what you know is right and not let bullies push you around.

Alexia, Anna Beth and Jacob are professional actors from the Old Creamery Theatre Company in Amana, Iowa, who will be directing this year’s camp. They will be assisted by South Tama’s thespians Kennedy Adams, Logan Witt and Jordan VanDee. The students will be in excellent hands.

Performances will be held on Saturday, July 28 at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Ticket prices are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Concessions will be available before the show. Advanced tickets can also be purchased at 9:45 a.m. or 2 p.m. on Friday at the theatre.

Past performances have included: “Merlin’s Apprentice and the Deadly Dragon”, “The Unknowns Freak Out Roswell”, “Lights, Hollywood, Action!, and “Mystery at Mimsley Manor”, Little Red Meets the Wolves. Please come and enjoy our newest performance of “The Legend of Blackbeard’s Gold” and support our local talent!
