For Summer Reading Week Two, Tuesday’s group had a visit from Logan Roberts our Tama County Naturalist. She did a great program on Animal & Nature Sounds.
Logan would play a nature sound on her laptop and we had to guess what it was. It was great fun!
She also brought a bobcat pelt and hissing cockroaches that everyone was able to touch 9 (if they were brave enough).
For our craft we made ankle bracelets with beads and bells and our game was a dance using poles that were moved in rhythm. The dance is called Tinikling after the Tinikling bird.
The poles are usually bamboo-ours are made from PVC pipe.

The Thursday group had a visit from Michelle from the Green Iowa AmeriCorps group. She read a book and talked about how things aren’t always what they seem to be.
The children compared small bottles of things which looked similar but were very different, such as candy vs. air freshener beads. We learned that many things around the house look like candy but are poisonous.
The children were told not to eat anything they aren’t sure is safe. For our craft the children painted pictures. Both groups had Koolaide and Starbust candy. We gave away more shirts and prizes. Everyone received a door hanger and another activity packet.
