To help spread the message of Stewardship Week, April 29 through May 6, the Tama Soil & Water Conservation District recently held a grocery sack decorating contest in local schools. 271 students created contest entries.

This year’s theme is “Watersheds: Our Water, Our Home” which stresses that clean water is important to everyone.

$5 winners of the schools’ grade levels included Genecia Cooper, third grade at Meskwaki Schoo1.

Renewable paper grocery sacks from these stores were provided for the contest: Fareway in Toledo, Terry’s Food Center in Dysart,Hometown Foods in Traer and Trunck’s in Reinbeck.

The district’s overall contest winner is fourth grader Caden Sorensen of Dysart-Geneseo Elementary. He won $10 and will be treated to an airplane ride over Tama County.
