It is now legal to burn certain yard waste in Tama. The Tama City Council lifted the ban on burning in the city during their meeting Monday night, March 19, extending through Sunday, May 6. Burning is prohibited on Easter Sunday, April 1.

For fall and spring it has been customary for the council to eliminate the ban for certain periods of time since the prohibition was enacted several years ago.

Burning of materials in Tama is not allowed unless it is wood and burned in a fire ring enclosure for recreational purposes.

To dispose of yard waste during this period residents can also haul it to the brush city disposal site located southwest of Cherry Lake.

To access the brush site obtain a key from the office of the city clerk or Tama Police.

Residents using the city facility must follow rules and not dump material which is prohibited.

A dumpster strictly for deposit of grass and leaves is maintained north of the Civic Center near the recycling bin area.

Also on Monday the council:

heard a report from Matt Zmolek, Independent Insurance representative, from which they learned city insurance would rise about 6.7 percent in cost.

approved a liquor sales license renewal for Aqui Te Espero Bar and Grill and tabled action on a renewal forLas Dos Fuentes.
