Area seniors will now have services offered in Tama beginning Friday, June 30. Noon congregate meals will last be served tomorrow, June 29 at the Toledo Community?Building.

In an announcement by Northeast Iowa Agency on Aging – NEI3A – meals and other services will be available beginning this Friday, June 30, at the Tama Meskwaki Assembly of God Church, 900 East 5th St. In addition, distribution of mobile meals for Toledo and Tama will originate from the Tama church.

The move of the Healthy Lifestyles or Senior Center is part of the Toledo City Council’s decision to close and raze the Toledo Community Building, the long-time site of the local program. The senior center was given notice to vacate by July 1.

Services to be continued at the new location include educational, health, fitness and wellness programs, social and recreational activities and meals and nutrition under the direction of Deb Peska, Tama County service specialist for NE13A.

Persons going to the new location have been advised to use 4th Street as East 5th Street in Tama is currently closed due to reconstruction.

The Meskwaki Assembly of God Church moved into its new location on East 5th Street at Christmas time, 2014. The congregation had pitched in to remodel the former Miguel’s Store building.

It features a 142-seat fellowship hall as well as a spacious sanctuary and classrooms and space for young people.
