STC FFA earns Gold at 2015 Iowa FFA Milk Quality and Products Career Development Event

The South Tama County FFA participated in the 2015 Iowa Champion FFA Milk Quality & Products Team. Team members included: Haley Shope, Kyle Kucera and Garrett Princehouse. Mr. Koch served as the Interim FFA advisor. The champion team will compete in the National FFA Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event during the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, this October.

The STC FFA Team placed 6th out of 15 teams and earned a Gold Placing in the event. Haley place 25th out of 51 individuals, followed by Garrett at 27th and Kyle at 45th, respectively.

The Iowa FFA Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event was made possible through the Iowa FFA Foundation with support from the Midwest Dairy Association in Ankeny. Culver’s, Dairy Farmers of America and Kraft Heinz, through the National FFA Foundation, sponsored the Champion Team Plaque. The Milk Quality & Products Career Development Event was coordinated and conducted by Dr. Stephanie Clark and numerous other faculty and staff with the Iowa State University Department of Food Science & Human Nutrition in Ames. Leo Timms and the Iowa State University Dairy Farm provided materials for the California Mastitis Test portion of the event. Eastern Iowa Dairy Supply and Fitzgerald, Inc. Dairy Equipment & Service provided the milker units.
