United Fund launches annual drive

It is that time of year again! Yes, the South Tama County (STC) United Fund is asking for your generous donations to help fund 16 nonprofits serving South Tama County. Your generosity could help children participate in the various summer recreation activities, help the consumers at the Tama Opportunity Center go on a day trip, or help those who have been domestically or sexually assaulted as well as other agencies.

The STC United Fund supports many local non-profit organizations with one donation from important donors like you. Just a few dollars a week can help a person with a disability become more independent; provide assistance to victims of domestic violence; provide child care to a low-income child; support Boys and Girls Scouting, and many more.

The organizations supported by this fund are the following: American Red Cross; Iowa River Chapter; Mid-Iowa Council, Boy Scouts of America; Central Iowa Residential Services, Inc. (Cirsi); Central Iowa Family Planning; ACCESS,( Assault Care Center Extending Shelter and Support); Girl Scouts, Conestoga Council; Iowa Legal Aid; Iowa River Hospice; Mid-Iowa Community Action, Inc; Mid-Iowa Workshops, Inc.; South Tama County Recreation; Tama County Nest Program; Tama County Day Care, Inc ( Kid’s Corner); Tama Opportunity Center; University of Iowa Cancer Research; and University of Iowa Heart Research.

Last year the STC United Fund distributed $34,000 to these nonprofits. This number may seem like a lot, but giving has been down the last few years. This drop in funding directly impacts our local nonprofits, and more importantly, the people they serve. That is why we are asking you, the reader, to please consider giving generously this year. It is only through your support that STC United Fund can make life-changing impacts on the people in our county served by our local nonprofits. Outside sources of funding for nonprofits, like the STC United Fund, are essential to their ability to carry out their missions in ways that creates real change in our communities. They cannot solicit funds, so they must rely on organizations such as the STC United Fund and your generous gifts of money. Your tax-deductible gift to the STC United Fund is critical to our nonprofits’ survival and allows our communities to be places where all people can thrive.

Endowment Fund

Besides the STC United Fund, there is the South Tama United Endowment Fund. This fund allows us to continually respond to the current and unique needs of Tama County. By making a gift to this fund, you give us flexibility to fund charitable programs and projects in the community to explore the arts and celebrate diversity, support healthy lifestyles, protect natural resources, educate future generations, preserve the past, build hope for tomorrow, ensure a safe place to live, and improve the quality of life for all.

There are, also, added benefits of giving. Because the South Tama County United Endowment Fund has been established with the Tama County Community Foundation, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, donations to the fund are eligible to receive a 25% state tax credit through the Endow Iowa Tax Credit program, in addition to normal federal deductions for charitable gifts.
