South Tama School Board awards photo bid, fills staff positions

The South Tama County Community School Board met Monday evening, Aug. 3, to discuss proposals for a photographer to take activity pictures for grades 7 through 12. This would also cover homecoming, prom and graduation pictures.
They had received three proposals with the costs very competitive. Ben Adams and Dan Phipps provided information on the three proposals.
The board chose to accept the bid from Stewart Photography, a Montour-based photo business and the only full-time studio operator within the STC School District.
Stewart Photography has done business with South Tama in the past and has a history of producing a product in a timely manner, it was reported. They have been recommended for Grades 7 through 12, as well as Homecoming, Prom and graduation pictures and have been of service to many of South Tama’s programs over the past two decades.
Most recently they have photographed most of South Tama’s girls athletic programs at the high school and middle school since 2012.
Several of the coaches and teachers names were given as references.
The other bids came from Stalzer Photography, Marshalltown and Darvin Graham, Toledo photographer.
Contracts Issued
Contracts approved pending licensure were for Amy Dolash, head varsity volleyball coach effective in the fall of 2015 with a salary of $4,440; Rick Meisner, high school teacher at the Partnership Center at $48,676 annually and will also be high school assistant boys basketball coach effective in the fall of 2015 at a salary of $3,275.
Also, Denise Danker, high school math teacher, $46,632; Jessica St. John, middle school / elementary ELL teacher at a salary of $37,685; Linda Phipps, elementary assistant principal’s secretary at $14.49 per hour; Jodi Upah, administration office human resource person ,$19.25 per hour; Laura Wall, middle school kitchen at $12.31 an hour; and John Purk as a driver for the special education route at $17.60 per hour.
One resignation was accepted from Linda Moser who was high school math teacher effective date July 17, pending replacement.
Coaching Assignments
Volunteer coaches will be Rick Hopper for middle school girls basketball, Mike Wedmore, high school softball, Ron Hala for high school girls basketball, Baron Davis for high school wrestling, Larry Fletcher for high school boys basketball, Jeffrey Novtony for high school football and Stan Upah for high school volleyball.
