Three South Tama County students are a bit closer to their trip of a lifetime thanks to the Tama Paper Mill.
Kaylee Chyma, Lauren Gumm, and Wyatt Hintermeister were recently selected as Iowa Ambassadors of Music. They will tour seven countries in Europe during the summer of 2016.
To get there however will take lots of fundraising efforts on the parts of the students. The trip costs roughly $6,000 per student.
As previously mentioned the students got a bit closer to their goal thanks to the generosity of the managers and employees at the Tama Paper Board. General Manager, Greg Aiken, worked a deal out with the students. Chyma, Gumm, and Hintermeister along with their parents hosted a barbeque for employees on location during their scheduled lunch hours.
Employees feasted on hamburgers, hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans and dessert. They then offered up a free will donation for the tasty food. The donations given were matched with not only the Paper Board but also the USW Local 743 Union. The total amount collected from employees was $1482. The USW Local 743 committed to a $500 donation. The Tama Paperboard’s matching gift was $1982. So in total the students raised a whopping $3,964!

Besides making some money the barbeque gave the students a chance to meet people and tell them about their upcoming trip.
