STC High plans appreciation event for community backing of Celebrate My Drive
In order to thank the South Tama community for their efforts in helping South Tama County High School win $100,000 through the Celebrate My Drive contest earlier this year, students and staff at the high school are planning a community celebration to end the 2014-2015 school year.
“We wanted to plan this for the community because the community members were one of the main reasons we won the contest, so we really wanted to do something to thank them,” said senior Ericka Dunning, a member of the student planning committee for the event.
The celebration will take place on Wednesday, May 20, from 5-8 p.m. at the high school football field and is free to all South Tama County community members.
The night will feature a free barbecue dinner. The Tama County Pork Producers will be grilling 250 pork burgers and the Tama County Cattlemen will contribute 250 hamburgers. Chips and drinks will also be provided.
The evening will also include a kickball tournament organized by the counselor’s office, music, bounce houses, face painting, drunken goggle activities, free small prizes, and a rock climbing wall sponsored by the National Guard.
Planning for the celebration has been happening for over four weeks, so the night will surely be a great way to celebrate STCHS’ success from the Celebrate My Drive contest.
The planning committee also hopes to make this celebration an annual event.
“This is a good opportunity for our students to show their appreciation for all the support the community shows STC. It will be a fun and positive way to end the year and I hope it can become an annual event,” said Ben Adams, activity director.##
