Poppy Day Proclamation
I, Dan Zimmerman, Mayor of the City of Tama, Iowa, do hereby declare the month of May 2015 as the American Legion Auxiliary Poppy Month and Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, 2015 as Poppy Days in the City of Tama.
The red crape paper Poppy is the symbol of the little red poppies that grew in the battlefields and graveyards in France during World War 1. These poppies remind us of the sacrifice our servicemen have gin-en during World War 1, World War 11, the Korean War, the War in Viet Nam and the wars of Panama, Granada and Desert Storm.
All proceeds from the Poppy Distribution are used for the benefit of veterans and milles in the local community.
Dan Zimmerman, Mayor
Brenda Youngbear, Poppy Chairman
