Two former South Tama faculty members receive honors

On Oct. 4 in Ames, two retired STC teachers were inducted into the Iowa High School Speech Association’s Hall of Fame.

The recipients of this honor were Mary Fasse-Shaw and Gary Zmolek. They were recognized for their outstanding work in speech and drama. During their tenure, STC was recognized state wide for its excellence in their productions and competitions.

Among the large audience present at the event were their families, colleagues, and former students. “Fass” and “Z”, as they were affectionately known by their students, gave speeches of acceptance with reminiscences, both humorous and serious, of their days as speech and drama coaches.

This honor is awarded once a year to only two people. Having two people from the same school has never happened before. In their years at STC, Fass and .Z touched the lives of many young people in very positive ways.
