Michelle Yuska elected STC School Board President

The election of a President and Vice President for the South Tama County School Board was on the agenda Monday, Sept. 22, with nominations for Michelle Yuska as President and Mark McFate as Vice President, both of Toledo.
McFate has been serving as president but said he did not feel he had the time to do the job as he feels it should be done.
A unanimous vote was cast for the two offices and Mary Boege administered the oath of office.
Other board members are Anne Michael, Tama, Jackie Dvorak, Chelsea and Alan Cline, rural Toledo.
Personnel
Contracts were approved for Sharon Vaipae, high school and middle school ELL, effective Sept. 15 at a salary of $37,921 per year, prorated based on start date; Trisha Kriegel high school and middle school nurse’s aide, effective Sept. 11 at a rate of $10.43 per hour; Dan Lopez prom sponsor, $1,006; Linda Aziz, middle school special education teacher effective Sept. 18 at a salary of $31,720 (prorated based on start date); and Doug Stadler will be a volunteer coach this year for the middle school volleyball team.
Resignations were accepted from Heather Dostal, middle school special education aide and Mary Bazal, elementary special education aide, both effective Sept. 26.
Overnight Trips Approved
The board approved the overnight activities trips which include the National FFA Conference at Louisville, Ky., football playoffs at Cedar Falls, state cross country meet at Ames, varsity volleyball state meet at Cedar Rapids, the Thespian Festival at Cedar Falls and the All State Musical Festival at Ames. These are all for the month of November 2014.
The ISU Honor Band at Ames and the State Wrestling Meet in Des Moines were approved for February. March overnight trips include Girls and Boys State Basketball Tournaments in Des Moines.
April is the FFA State Leadership Conference in Des Moines and May is for the Boys and Girls State Track meet in Des Moines, as well as the Boys State Golf Tournament with the place to be determined.
June stays include Girls State Golf Tournament, Boys State Tennis, Girls State Tennis, destination to be determined, and Girls and Boys State Soccer at Des Moines.
The State Softball Tournament and the Boys State Baseball Tournament area for July and the destination to be determined.
Also before the school board:
The Board approved a Purchase of Services Agreement (Supplemental Educational Services) with EduCare Learning Centers, Inc. at a rate of $1,197 per student. The District has used this provider previously and is renewing the contract.
Iowa Code provide a uniform procedure for investigating allegations of physical and sexual abuse of students by school employees. Therefore the board has agreed to appoint Sue Bugge, Jim Bugge, Roy Frakes, Dan Lopez, Melanie Kemper, Anita Townsley, and Kerry Nelson as Level 1 Investigators. Ahlelrs and Cooney Law Firm or another designated source will be a Level II investigator.
Michelle Yuska was selected as delegate for the South Tama County Community District to attend the Iowa Association of School Boards annual business meeting in Des Moines.
Approval was given for the following staff as authorized to sign on the Activities account at The State Bank of Toledo, Benjamin Adams, Activities Director; Mary Boege, Board Secretary-Business Manager; Michelle Yuska, Board President; Kerri Nelson, Superintendent; and Kim Gardner, Payroll. Jeremy Jones name has been removed from the account at Pinnacle Bank and Benjamin Adams as Activities Director added.
South Tama teacher Terri Guenther-Mayer has been selected as a recipient of the Fall 2014 Trees for Kinds and Trees for Teens Grant Program. The grant was for $4972. The students will be planting these trees, and they must be completed by Oct. 31.
