South Tama Elementary Principal Jim Bugge said the clock tower on the elementary building in Tama has become “a bird haven” during the school board’s Monday night, June 9, meeting.

That’s soon to change.

The Elementary Booster Club is making a donation to purchase a clock for the tower and it will be installed this summer. The clock will cost $4,200 and is made by Americlock, Ballwin, Mo.

A ceiling will also be built in the lower portion of the tower to finish it off and further prevent birds from entering.

Bugge said the new clock will measure four feet in diameter and will be lighted.

The clock mechanism will reset itself after a power outage and adjust automatically for daylight savings time changes, Bugge said.
