On Friday August 9th at 7:00 pm. The Knights of Columbus Council 7504 from St. Patrick’s Church of Tama presented Maria Cervantes with two $500.00 checks from the Knights of Columbus Iowa Charitable Foundation.

Maria has Muscular Dystrophy and the Knights applied for a grant at the Iowa Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation. We applied for a grant of $500.00, last week we received a call informing us that the charitable committee had decided to give Maria $1,000.00.

The presentation was held at the Cervantes family home, with Maria, her mother Rosa, brother Martin, Laura Galvez, Ron Timm, George Oekter, Evelyn Swyter, and Bruce Swyter.

The community is having a fund raiser for Maria and her family Saturday August 17th at the Partnership Center, 215 W 9th St. in Tama from 2:00 am to 10:00 pm. There will be games with prizes for the children, inflatables, silent auction, food and a dance. The profits from this fund raiser will go to help reduce the medical expenses of Maria’s care.
