Tama-Toledo Eagles Auxiliary celebrates 60th year

The Eagles Auxiliary Madam State President Judith Wheeler of Maquoketa was in attendance at the Tama-Toledo Eagles Auxiliary’s 60th Anniversary Open House on Sunday, July 22nd held at the local Eagles Club. She was welcomed heartily by a good assembly present and was presented a corsage by the Auxiliary’s Madam President Jean Doran. The current officers and many Past Madam Presidents were in attendance along with the two remaining Charter Members Ethel Filloon of Toledo and Millie Schultz of Tama. Both were also presented with a corsage. Everyone present enjoyed cake, punch, coffee and music by M&M.

During the course of the afternoon Madam President Jean Doran introduced her serving officers and the Madam State President. Ms. Wheeler delivered a message thanking Tama-Toledo for the invitation, her corsage, stating how nice it was to be present for such a grand event and hoped to meet all again during her travels around the State of Iowa this year.

Many Auxiliary-In-Action books of the Past Presidents were laid out for all to check out and read about happenings in years gone by. These books relate pictures and news items of activities during the President’s year in office and brings back many memories. The oldest one dated back to 58-59.

The local Eagles Auxiliary was instituted on July 13th, 1952 with 56 Charter members and at present has over 300 members on the rolls. The Eagles Aerie and Auxiliary motto nationally is known as ‘People Helping People’ and they keep this motto steadfast by working for dinners, receptions, fish fries, sandwich nights to name a few activities. The net proceeds from all activities goes to charities. No one receives any reward except knowing they have helped someone who cannot help themselves. Hopefully the local Auxiliary will be around for another 60 years plus.
