During National Children’s Book Week, the Toledo Public Library held a Bookmark Contest. Kids had the opportunity to design a bookmark that would be voted on by library patrons. The winner would then have their bookmark printed and made available to the public. There were 13 participants who created amusing and colorful bookmark designs. Lexi Dreesman was the winner. Stop by the library to see all the great bookmarks on display and pick up a bookmark designed by Lexi.

National Children’s Book Week began in 1913 by Franklin Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America. He began touring the country to promote higher standards in children’s books. He proposed creating a Children’s Book Week, which could be supported by all interested groups: teachers, publishers, booksellers, and librarians.

Children’s Book Week is celebrated annually at the Toledo Public Library where the staff promotes reading and using the library.

Events held were Sundae Monday, Bookmark Tuesday, Popcorn Wednesday, Story Time Thursday and Jelly Bean Friday.

The kids could also take advantage of participating in the scavenger hunt where tickets were earned and prizes were awarded.
