Open house is Wednesday for Toledo Senior Center

TOLEDO CHRONICLE (SPECIAL) – Dorothy had it right – there’s no place like home! That is the concept that Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging supports each and every day providing programs and services to help older people in Tama county remain independent and in their homes for as long as they desire.

To showcase some of the programs and services available in Tama County and to celebrate some exciting changes happening at the Toledo Senior Center, the public is invited to attend an open house on Wednesday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to noon at the Toledo Senior Center located at 103 S. Church in Toledo.

Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend to see first-hand the valuable services that are available. Learn how to protect your identity and spot Medicare fraud by visiting with the Consumer Fraud Prevention staff; learn what is considered elder abuse and what to do if you suspect elder abuse is occurring by visiting with the Elder Abuse Initiative experts; exercise is the key to aging strong and staying healthy – find out about some upcoming classes to get you moving offered by the YWCA; and find out about some exciting menu options for both home delivered and congregate meals.

Refreshments will be served during the open house. If you would like to stay for the noon meal, reservations are required by calling 641-484-3839 by 9 a.m. on July 13. The menu will include roast beef with brown gravy, whipped potatoes, green beans, wheat roll with margarine, ice cream, and frosted chocolate cake. The meal is available on a contribution basis for those aged 60 and over, otherwise the cost is $6 for those under 60.
