Sometimes it takes a village, and recently, this village just got slightly bigger. The mental health services of Together We Can (TWC) have come to Tama to offer help.
Moving into the Tama Prairie Ridge office at 413 McClellan St., every Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Together We Can is easily accessible. TWC has been a local presence since March of 2022, when they started servicing Marshall County. Jasper and Poweshiek Counties have also utilized their help over the years.
Together We Can employs two state-certified peer recovery specialists that offer a wide range of services and help. From educational classes, facilitating support groups, to the more individualized one-on-one peer support, the specialists are here to assist the community. They are also WRAP or Wellness Recovery Action Plan certified facilitators.
Becky Brown with Together We Can had this to say about what citizens can expect from the program.
“When seeking the services of Together We Can, you can expect confidentiality and support with any mental health issue. There will be no judgments, and we use our personal experience to relate to those we are serving. We will be by your side through your situation. We won’t give up,” she said.
On average, TWC sees around fifteen people a month, and is expected to be in Tama on Fridays from 10 to 2. Although if a demand for their services is seen, they haven’t ruled out expansion in the county.
