Tama to ‘Light Up Downtown’
At the last meeting of the My Hometown Tama Committee, the group decided on the theme of “Light Up Downtown Tama” for the upcoming holiday season.
Barb Steveson and Sharon Brezina headed the group who refurbished the City of Tama’s Christmas decorations. They replaced bulbs and sprayed faded bows and candle holders with red.
They have made plans to order solar lighted netting to place on the bushes on 3rd Street.
Also, they are planning on encouraging merchants to decorate their windows for Christmas.
The committee will sponsor a contest to see what store front is the best decorated.
The winning merchant will receive a gift basket and a traveling trophy. The trophy will be sensationally designed by Brenda Youngbear and Claire Shefchik.
Windows should be decorated by November 20 when all the Christmas activities begin. The judging will be on December 4th.
We hope all merchants, whether the windows are large or small, will get into the spirit of Christmas and decorate their windows.
Many thanks to the ladies of the Eagles and the Legion Auxiliary for their generous donations. The group welcomes donations, but we are in the process of establishing our own account so that we have access to the donated money when the money is needed. The committee also welcomes new members. Feel free to join us. Our next meeting is November 7 at 1:30 at El Cerrito on 3rd Street in Tama.
