Iowa Premium now featured at top steakhouses across the United States
Editor’s Note: The Tama meatpacking operation has revised it’s name to “Iowa Premium” Jeffrey Johnson, CEO, told The News-Herald and Chronicle last week. the change, dropping “Beef” – “so there is no confusion between us and one of our competitors” John said in an email.
From Boston to Miami Beach to Las Vegas, Iowa Premium steaks from Tama are now receiving top billing in a variety of steakhouses operated by Smith & Wollensky.
In the announcement last week, Smith & Wollensky said, in part, “With a continued passion for delivering the highest quality steak produced with responsible processing Smith & Wollensky is proud to now feature Iowa Premium. Specializing in local family-farm raised beef, they hold the highest standards for raising corn-fed Black Angus in a responsible, and entirely sustainable manner that leads to perfectly tender and flavorful steaks.”
The steakhouses are also located in Chicago, Columbus, Ohio, Washington D.C., Houston, New York City and London, England. The company began in 1977.
Smith & Wollensky’s press release says, “It all starts with procuring cattle from nearby family farms that grow the corn they feed. These farmers believe in proper care, handling, nutrition and compassionate treatment to ensure the best possible product. With Iowa’s rolling green pastures, abundant corn and dedicated family farmer-feeders, the result is the highest quality well-marbled beef that has come to be known around the world.”
The company says it will continue to dry-age and butcher on their restaurant premises.
Iowa Premium opened here in November, 2014, and quickly has grown to employ more than 700.
