Bowling alley slated to be entertainment center in Tama

Tama’s bowling alley is history but a new center for activities and entertainment is in the works.

Rose and Leno Anaya, long-time Tama and Toledo business people, have bought Venture Lanes and are currently in the process of renovating the building on Business Route 30 on Tama’s east side.

Rose told The News-Herald on Tuesday they plan on an activity center which will be available for planned teen night activities to country-western line dancing andbaptisms and weddings. “Whatever comes around,” Rose said.

The spacious building housed 12 bowling lanes since it was built about 1960. Much of that equipment was removed before the Anayas purchased it.

Rose said they are aiming for an April opening. They haven’t come up with a name for the new business and invite suggestions, she said.

The Anayas operated Leno’s Saloon, first in downtown Tama then on East 5th Street for a total of 18 years.

They also own the Plantation Apartments complex at Toledo Heights.

Rose is a sales associate with Dirks Real Estate, Toledo, and Leno is employed with a construction company.
