A new downtown Toledo store which just opened recently – Priced Right Treasures – can’t be open until the adjacent building to the west is torn down. That was the word from Toledo Mayor Dave Svoboda and Fire Chief Joe Boll on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3. The building at 119 West High partially collapsed on Monday night. An inspection by the State Fire Marshal’s Office found the damaged building was leaning into the Priced Right store, officials said.

“We talked about doing it for a long time,” said Priced Right Treasures owners Mel and Doug Price. A combination of Mel recently leaving the job she held at a Marshalltown law firm and the availability of a building owned by her brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Sue Micllef, in downtown Toledo made their new venture possible.

Now open at 115 West High, directly across the street from the front doors of the Tama County Courthouse, the Price’s new store emphasizes buying and selling coins, gold and silver and jewelry. There is also a select amount of antiques and collectibles in an inventory which they said will “constantly change.”

Gold and silver market prices are posted daily in the store which has 1,600 sq. ft. of retail space.

A selection of choice antiques and collectibles will be carried in addition to coins, jewelry and silver at Priced Right Treasures. Owners Mel and Doug Price will buy select items and coins and jewelry.

The Prices are no strangers to private business. Doug has operated Price’s Garage Doors and openers for 16 years, a business he took over from his father who retired. He serves a radius of some 20 miles from Marshalltown. Mel worked at the law firm for 17 years.

Priced Right Treasures now offers “thousands of quality coins for sale” the Prices say., They stock mint and proof sets, melt value silver coins, silver one oz. rounds, 10 oz. bar, commemorative coins and more.

They can fulfill a “want-wish list” for collectors and buy coins and currency as well as other collectible items.

Doug has 40 years experience in coins. He is qualified as an appraiser for coin and currency for estates, is a member of the Numismatic Guaranty Corp (NGC) Collectors Society, serves as vice president of the Ames Coin Club and is a member of the Iowa Numismatic Association.
