South Tama School Board approves emergency planning operations

Emergency Planning Operations documents were adopted by the South Tama School Board in a special meeting on Wednesday morning, June 19.

The board met in closed session to review the material as recommended by the Iowa Department of Public Instruction Superintendent Jared Smith told The News-Herald.

He suggested the sensitive nature of some of the plans makes confidentiality a necessity.

Last year the Department of Public Instruction directed all schools in the state to develop such plans and have them approved by the school board Smith said.

He said there are plans to conduct ongoing training with local authorities this fall.

The board also approved the change of the Sept. 23 professional development date to Sept. 16.
