A Matter of Balance workshop scheduled in Toledo

TOLEDO CHRONICLE- Toledo – Do you have concerns about falling? Have you cut down on your favorite activity because you might fall? Hawkeye Valley Area Agency on Aging is offering A Matter of Balance, an award winning workshop designed to help reduce the fear of falling and increase the activity levels of older adults who have concerns about falling. If you have concerns about falling, have sustained a fall in the past, restrict your activity because of concerns about falling, and want to improve your flexibility, balance and strength – A Matter of Balance in the class for you.

During 8 two-hour sessions, participants learn to:

·View falls and fear of falling as controllable

·Set realistic goals for increasing activity

· Change their environment to reduce fall risk factors

·Promote exercise to increase strength and balance

Don’t let the fear of falling slow you down, register today for A Matter of Balance. Classes will be held at the Toledo Public Library on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. starting March 1. The Toledo Public Library is located at 206 East High Street in Toledo.

Preregistration is required by calling 641-484-3839. The workshop fee is $15 per participant which includes a detailed training manual and all class supplies. Scholarships are available to persons 60 year of age and older who express financial need.

HVAAA is a private, not-for-profit corporation serving older persons in Black Hawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Chickasaw, Grundy, Hardin, Marshall, Poweshiek and Tama counties. HVAAA coordinates services for people ages 60 and older and their caregivers to maintain the independence they desire.
