Charges stem from an incident which took place on or about May 2, 2016. According to the criminal complaint, Garcia-Ortega is alleged to have taken control of and attempted to sell property belonging to her brother, Lucile Kapayou. According to trial documents, the property in question includes eleven rings with a combined value of less than $1000.00, as well as three tablets with a combined value of less than $500.00. A case management conference is set for March 30, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. A jury trial is set for April 18, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. Garcia-Ortega is represented by attorney Alexandra M. Nelissen of Clive.

Dalton James Mitchell, 30, of Toledo made an initial appearance in district court on March 15 on charges including four counts of child endangerment (aggravated misdemeanor) and one count of operating while under the influence first offense (serious misdemeanor). Charges stem from an incident that took place on January 1, 2022. According to the criminal complaint, Mitchell was allegedly operating a vehicle with an adult passenger in violation of a valid no contact order of protection that was in place as a result of a previous felony domestic abuse assault/aggravated assault case that took place in November 2021 – a plea deal was reached in the previous case on Feb. 24, 2022 with Mitchell placed on one year probation and ordered to have no further law violations. Also present in the vehicle on Jan. 1, 2022, were four minor children. During the course of the investigation on Jan. 1, Mitchell allegedly exhibited signs of impairment. Mitchell allegedly refused all field sobriety tests except for one test which he was unable to complete. Alcohol was determined to not be the impairing factor. A preliminary hearing in this case is set for April 1, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. A no contact order of protection was issued on March 15 for the four minor victims in the case. Attorney Joel Fenton was assigned by the court to represent Mitchell in this case.
