South Tama sweeps home early bird meet

South Tama’s Cameron Klostermann hands off to Mario Moncada during the boys 4x200 M Relay at the STC track. The Trojans hosted the early bird meet on Tuesday, April 5.

While the weather kept some folks at home it did not stop the South Tama Trojans from sweeping their first home track meet of the season on Tuesday, April 5.

The rain held to just a few sprinkles and temperatures hung around the 40’s to make for a chilly and windy night for South Tama track.

Despite the challenging weather, several Trojans rose to the occasion to help capture team victories for both the boys and girls squads. The Trojan girls set 11 PRs and had 13 first place finishes.

Leading the way for the Lady Trojans was Tieranny Keahna and her two first place finishes in the shot put and discus events. Belle Tyynismaa added three more wins in the 100, 200, and 400 meter runs. Allison and Lauren Yuska showed their dominance while winning the 100 and 400 hurdles. Jessica Musgrave came from behind and took gold in the 1500 meter run. Jensen Vodochodsky ran a solid attack on her way to first in the 800. The relay teams also performed well with first place finishes in the 4×100, 4×800, and distance medley. Stacey Slaven added another first place finish in the high jump.

Sabrina Holtz threw a personal best of 36’2.50. “She continues to show great improvement in the shot,” said coach George Corum.

Marisol Mora and Mallory Thede continue to run hard in the distance events and both recorded some season best efforts.

“The last two meets have been rough on our athletes dealing with the wind and cold. Knowing we don’t have any control on the weather, the girls have really stepped up and accepted the challenge and all have performed very well under adverse conditions. Hopefully soon we’ll get some nice track weather and get a chance to see how much better we can perform,” said Corum.
