Trojans dominate at Clear Creek Amana double dual

The South Tama Trojan wrestling team travelled to Clear Creek-Amana on Thursday, December 17 for a double dual with the Clippers and the Marion Indians.

The first varsity dual of the evening was between STC and Marion. The night began with Bailey Chyma receiving a forfeit at 182.

Dalton Rosenberg moved the Trojans to 12-0 after pinning Keanu Quinn (3:22).

At 220 it was STC’s Andrew Peters over Brevin Hahn (Fall 3:35) and at 285 Kyle Kucera over Carson Webster (Fall 2:12) putting the Trojans up 24-0.

The first points scored by Marion were at 106 in which STC is open.

Brady Fritz got things rolling again for the Trojans with a fall (:48) over Ismail Havyarimana at weight class 113.

Marion’s Zach Cochran pinned STC freshman Jacob Hess (5:21) at 120.

The Trojans, starting with Tanner Probasco at 126, dominated weight classes 126 – 145. Probasco pinned Braden Garringer (:24), Colton Vest received a forfeit at 138.

Freshman Dallas Horne got his first varsity win over Ethan Johnston in an 8-1 decision win.

Colin Conway stuck STC freshman Tanner Walz at 152 (1:36), which gave Marion their final points of the night.

STC’s 160 pounder Isaac Judge stuck Brady Bartz (4:41) and Josh Thiessen closed out the dual with a fall over Joey Person (1:00) to give the Trojans a commanding 60-18 finish.

Up next for the Trojans were the CCA Clippers. Rosenberg got the dual going at 195 with a fall over Cole White.

The Clippers saw some success at in their heavier weight classes with wins at 220, 285 and with the Trojans open at 106 CCA jumped ahead to an early team lead at 18-6.

At 220 STC’s Peters was stuck by Nick Collins (3:09) and Ethan Taylor pinned Kyle Kucera after a tough take down (2:43).

But from 113 on the Clippers couldn’t contain the Trojans. The Clippers were open in 113, 120, 138, 145 and 170, which really hurt them.

Fritz and Hess received forfeits at 113 and 120. Probasco got a 5-1 decision win over Andrew Rohert at 126.

At 138 Vest pinned Quinn Murphy (1:41).

Dallas Horne received a forfeit at 145.

Tanner Walz won a very close bout with a 5-3 decision over David Jensen at 152.

Isaac Judge pinned Jacob Wessling (3:30) at 160.

Josh Thiessen received a forfeit.

Bailey Chyma closed out the evening with a fall over Tanner Cochran (3:23) at 182. The Trojans captured another 60-18 win.

The night closed with Marion defeating the Clippers 45-28.

The Predicament released an updated list of rankings last Thursday and the Trojans have some additions to Class 2A. Brady Fritz is ranked 9th in 113, Isaac Judge is ranked 5th at 160, and Bailey Chyma moved from 7th to 4th at 170. The wrestlers competed at the Bill Van Horn invite in Pella on Saturday. They will now be on winter break until January 7 in which they will compete in a home dual versus Independence. The South Tama County Activities Boosters will be hosting a Jam the Gym event during the dual that will feature free popcorn and prizes throughout the evening.
