The South Tama freshman have had a very strong start to their season. Last year the Trojans completed an undefeated season under the coaching of Nate Van Dyke. They are on track to do the same this season, as they are now 4-0 after defeating Union 14-6.

It has been one of the rainiest football seasons in recent years and Friday night was no exception. The game was forced into a 45-minute rain delay due to lightning in the second quarter.

The game picked up with a Trojan possession on a third and ten. STC running back Andy Navarro was the go to guy for the freshmen. He converted on a fourth and two and got the six points for STC.

The Trojans entered a shortened half time up 8-0. South Tama started the second half on defense. Union however had the ball for just two plays before Brady Fritz intercepted a pass.

STC threatened the Knights but were unable to convert within the red zone. The Trojans coughed up their own turnover from a fumble on the Union seven-yard line.

The Trojans got in one more touchdown in the third quarter. It was true teamwork by STC’s offense. Quarterback Cael Kellogg under pressure found Fritz for a pop out pass and Fritz ran it in for a touchdown!

The Knights controlled the ball into the fourth quarter and were able to answer back with their only score of the night.

STC was moving down the field on their next possession but a fumble gave the Knights one last opportunity to turn things around. The Trojans were able to hold them off to close out the 14-6 win.

“I am really pleased with how this group of boys battled through the adverse conditions on the field. This will be a game that they will remember for some time,” said coach Nate Van Dyke.

South Tama will be on the road to take on South Hardin on Friday, September 25.
